The 15th Annual Day of Reflection and Reconciliation, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr.’s 97th birthday, was hosted on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Martin Luther King,
Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC. This year’s program included moments of prayer,
reflections, and thoughtful remembrances of Dr. King’s impact and legacy as a global
peace leader.
The Memorial Foundation was pleased to welcome United States Senator Angela
Alsobrooks (Maryland) as this year’s keynote speaker. Senator Alsobrooks’ clarion call
to action, rooted in Dr. King’s vision for the Beloved Community, encouraged each of us
to take responsibility in continuing the fight for equality, justice, and peace. We also
heard from community stakeholders, including Mr. Lucien Metellus, Jr., who serves as
the General President of Dr. King’s fraternity (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.), and Ms.
Gigi Dixon from Wells Fargo. Adding spiritual uplift and encouragement, the Reverend
Dr. Grainger Browning, Jr. from the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church led
the invocation and prayer of reconciliation. The program also included melodious
sounds from the Ebenezer AME Church Choir, under the direction of Minister Ricky
Dillard, and featuring award-winning gospel recording artist Byron Cage and BET’s
Sunday Best All Star Clifton Ross, III.
