Day of Love: Memorial Foundation Helps Families in Need

The Memorial Foundation, Inc., the foundation responsible for building the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, along with its partner Amazon, distributed food and personal care boxes to Washington DC area families in need area on February 13, 2021.

Volunteers loaded the boxes in cars along the Memorial

“Dr. King’s beliefs and the values that the Foundation supports in his memory ‘democracy, justice, hope and love’  are needed in our world now more than ever,” said Harry E. Johnson Sr., President and CEO of the Memorial Foundation.

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dr. King’s memorial, we are thankful to our partner Amazon to help us in our Day of Love to support those in need.

Food Boxes were distributed at the Martin Luther King Memorial, located at 1964 Independence Avenue SW. Volunteers loaded the boxes in cars along the Memorial. Families were able to register for boxes so that the staff and sponsor could anticipate demand and have appropriate quantities available. Following the food box distribution, the Foundation and Amazon distributed personal care boxes to local homeless shelters.

Additional partners for the Day of Love included Centene Insurance Company, The National Association of Realtors, T-Mobile, and Wells Fargo Bank.
